KAPCO Deh Halkani 120MW Solar PV OE
KAPCO Deh Halkani 120MW Solar PV OE
Project Overview
The Deh Halkani Solar PV Project is a utility-scale 120 MW solar power development situated in Deh Halkani, District West, Karachi, Sindh, Pakistan. Developed by the Kot Addu Power Company (KAPCO), this project represents a milestone in the utility-scale renewable energy procurement framework in Pakistan. The project was initiated through competitive bidding conducted by K-Electric under the NEPRA Electric Power Procurement Regulations, 2022, marking a major departure from historically negotiated upfront tariffs. KAPCO emerged as the successful bidder in the competitive process.
The primary objective of the project is to evacuate and deliver low-cost, clean electricity directly into K-Electric’s distribution grid, supporting K-Electric’s strategic target of increasing its renewable generation share to 30% by 2030. The transition from legacy thermal operations to low-cost solar is a strategic shift for KAPCO, which reported zero electricity generation in financial year 2024 following the expiration of its thermal power purchase agreement in late 2022. By deploying advanced solar photovoltaic technology, the project lowers the regional cost of power generation and improves grid stability in the western industrial corridor of Karachi. In support of this development, comprehensive Owner’s Engineering (OE) services were deployed.

Key Features
Very few industries in modern society face the number of challenges seen in the agriculture sector. Many external forces wreak havoc on the farm business, and all are completely out of the business owner’s control. Weather, drought, pests, and disease constantly hammer agriculture. They augment the standard risks any business faces and put significant pressure on historically thin profit margins. Add to this the current stagnation in the available workforce, which was significantly amplified by the COVID-19 pandemic, and you have a menu of challenges that seem almost impossible.
Results & Impact
The project successfully delivered a high-performance steel manufacturing facility that significantly improved production efficiency and output quality. The integration of advanced technologies enabled seamless operations, reduced downtime, and enhanced overall productivity.
