QESCO T&D Loss Study & 11kV GIS Mapping

QESCO T&D Loss Study & 11kV GIS Mapping

QESCO T&D Loss Study & 11kV GIS Mapping

Project Overview

The Quetta Electric Supply Company (QESCO) is the state-owned power distribution company responsible for transmitting and distributing electrical power across the vast, low-density terrain of Balochistan, Pakistan. Due to the geographic dispersion of consumer centers and long radial 11kV feeders, QESCO experiences high technical and commercial losses, typically ranging between 25% and 30%. Managing and optimizing a grid network of this scale requires advanced spatial monitoring and precise technical audits.

The integration of Geographical Information System (GIS) mapping is a transformative technology for modern utilities, enabling the digital visualization of electrical assets, feeder routings, and transformer locations. Implementing GIS mapping alongside a systematic T&D loss study allows QESCO to accurately localize high-loss areas, identify overloaded segments, improve network asset management, and develop targeted capital investment plans to stabilize the regional grid. Dedicated engineering services were deployed to execute this integrated study, combining field-level GPS data collection with computerized load-flow modeling.

Project Specifications

  • Project Scope: Comprehensive transmission and distribution (T&D) loss study integrated with updated web-based GIS asset mapping.
  • Project Location: Quetta Electric Supply Company (QESCO) distribution territory, Balochistan, Pakistan.
  • Policy Alignment: Aligns with national grid loss-reduction directives, DISCO performance optimization targets, and modern digital utility initiatives.
  • Key Components: Web-based GIS asset database, computer-aided load flow software models, and mapped radial 11kV distribution feeders.

OMS Scope of Services

  • Provided T&D loss evaluation services and updated web-based GIS mapping, including fresh GIS mapping for unmapped 11kV feeders across QESCO.
  • Executed GIS asset mapping, geographical data collection, and physical tracking for previously unmapped 11kV distribution feeders across the QESCO territory.
  • Integrated high-resolution spatial, geographical, and electrical asset data into a centralized, web-based GIS platform.
  • Conducted engineering load flow analyses using modeled electrical parameters to calculate actual, localized technical line losses.
  • Formulated and delivered an analytical technical losses report identifying high-loss segments, highlighting overloaded distribution transformers, and offering engineering recommendations.

Our Capabilities

Key Features

Very few industries in modern society face the number of challenges seen in the agriculture sector. Many external forces wreak havoc on the farm business, and all are completely out of the business owner’s control. Weather, drought, pests, and disease constantly hammer agriculture. They augment the standard risks any business faces and put significant pressure on historically thin profit margins. Add to this the current stagnation in the available workforce, which was significantly amplified by the COVID-19 pandemic, and you have a menu of challenges that seem almost impossible.

Fully automated production lines
High-precision steel processing technology
Real-time monitoring and control systems
Energy-efficient operations
Scalable infrastructure for future expansion

Results & Impact

The project successfully delivered a high-performance steel manufacturing facility that significantly improved production efficiency and output quality. The integration of advanced technologies enabled seamless operations, reduced downtime, and enhanced overall productivity.
